Minnesota HS hoops peaking
Tyus Jones (Duke),
Rashad Vaughn (UNLV),
Reid Travis (Stanford),
J.P. Macura (Xavier)
gave Minnesota high school hoops a heck of a couple seasons. As these players take off for their schools Minnesotans may not realize that such a great crop of recruits just doesn’t come around here. All of them have legitimate shots at making it to the big show- NBA. Travis, Vaughn and Jones were considered top 30 players in the nation thru some circles. All 3 could have attended any school in the country.
Macura won a state championship that Jones and Travis were unable to attend, even though they were expected to. One thing we can take from this class is that Minnesota is underrated for its high school sports recruiting hotbed. The fact that Jones and Travis were unable to take their teams to the finals makes the rest of the players in the state tournament relevant. The more Minnesota high school stars that play professionally and overseas will strengthen the foundation that gives credit to our Minnesota athletes. This may have been the most talented group that has graced Minnesota, but we have had stars before. We will have stars again. Here’s to the next peak. Cheers.
