Actress Misty Upham’s body found near river
A spokesperson for Misty Upham’s family said the actress’ body was found in a ravine in the Seattle suburb of Auburn on Thursday. The Native American star, best known for her roles in “August: Osage County,” ”Frozen River” and “Django Unchained,” was 32.
Police spokesman Steve Stocker said items with Upham’s name on them were found nearby.
“The search team of family and friends organized by her uncle Robert Upham found her yesterday at 1 p.m.,” the family’s spokesperson told FOX411.
Upham was reported missing by her family Oct. 6, a day after they told police she was suicidal.
Misty Upham’s father, Charles Upham, told KIRO-FM his daughter was upset and erratic and had stopped taking medication for anxiety and bipolar disorder.
Stocker said in a statement, “At this point we do not have any evidence or information to believe there is foul play.”
The family said Upham had moved to the Seattle area to help care for her father, who’s recovering from a stroke. She had been staying on the Muckleshoot reservation.
There has been a huge outpouring of grief via social media from Upham’s friends, family and colleagues.
Upham’s “August: Osage County” co-star Meryl Streep opened up about the news to The Hollywood Reporter, “So sad to hear this news – all our thoughts are with her family and with her beautiful spirit.”
Juliette Lewis, who also worked with Upham in “August: Osage County,” tweeted, “I cant sleep. Too much darkness. I feel so sad about Misty. I know she has more to say. And about how she died. #RIPMistyUpham.”
Melissa Leo, who starred in “Frozen River” with Upham, added, “Such a loss…so sad, so so sad.”
